Advisory
At High Tech High, each student has an advisor that they work with throughout their four years at the school. We get together once a week and provide cross-grade level support to students. In addition, we get to have fun together, as we get to know one another better and do fun activities, such as college day, advisory olympics, and other outings. I adore all of my advisees and hope to help them reach their academic and personal goals.
College Day
Each Spring, we travel to a college (or colleges) with our advisees to learn more about different institutions of higher learning. Thus far, I have traveled to UCLA (2011) and the California Institute of Art - San Diego (2012). In 2013, we traveled to Portland, OR, where one of our recent graduates (former advisee) is attending Reed, to see some of the great schools Portland has to offer. In 2014, we traveled to Colorado to see CU Boulder, Colorado College and DU.
Advisory Olympics
Each year, we compete in Advisory Olympics. This is a picture of our team from 2011, in which advisory groups participated in a GPS challenge that turned out to be near impossible. That said, this fighting, persistent team here stuck with it and competed in the numerous (some times crazy) challenges we were presented with. Best team EVER!
Outings & Events
Holiday Cookie Jars - Fundraising for College Day
In 2013 for College Day, we traveled to Portland, OR. To help make the trip affordable, we did a few fundraisers, including making and selling jars of cookie and brownie mix to sell around the holidays!
Holiday Cookie Making!
In December, 2011, we took an excursion to Ocean Beach and decorated holiday cookies before heading to the tide pools to explore. We also ate lunch at Hoodad's! Quite a fun adventure and a wonderful time for everyone to get to know one another better. Perhaps a first annual?
Pumpkin Decorating
In 2010, we painted pumpkins to get into the Halloween spirit. Such a creative group and fun event.
